Dear Members of AOPA Cyprus,
As we leave the past year behind and look ahead to the year to come, I would like to share a few thoughts and a brief overview of where we stand.
The year that has just passed was a particularly challenging one for AOPA Cyprus. From the very first day the new Board of Directors assumed its duties, we were faced with serious issues involving the Registrar of Associations, resulting from long-standing administrative neglect. The situation was such that AOPA Cyprus was at risk of deregistration.
Thanks to the hard work, dedication and collective effort of all Board members, this matter was successfully resolved. Today, AOPA Cyprus stands as a fully compliant, healthy and well-structured organization, ready to continue supporting and representing General Aviation in Cyprus.
At the same time, following ongoing consultations with various government bodies, and with the valuable cooperation and support of the management of the Cyprus Department of Civil Aviation, we have moved forward with the revision of the VFR charts. In the near future, we will be in a position to provide official announcements, presentations and briefings to our members on this important development.
Looking ahead to the new year, our primary objective is the completion of the revised VFR charts, along with the proper briefing and education of our members on the safe and efficient use of the new airspace structures and routes. Our goal is to ensure that all pilots can continue to enjoy their flights safely and confidently.
In parallel, we are working on organizing events such as air rallies, fly-ins and other aviation-related activities, details of which will be communicated to you as soon as they are finalized.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all AOPA Cyprus members, and especially to the members of the Board of Directors, for their hard work and commitment throughout the past year. Special thanks are due to Ms. Panagiota Dimitriou, Director of the Department of Civil Aviation, as well as Mr. Haris Antoniades and Mr. Giannis Theofilou, for their genuine and valuable efforts in the development of the new VFR charts.
It would be an omission not to express our sincere thanks to all Air Traffic Controllers, both at the Nicosia FIR Control Centre and, in particular, at the control towers of Larnaca and Paphos airports, with special appreciation to the respective supervisors, Mr. Nikolas Mitides and Mr. Simos Theodorou for their help and smooth cooperation.
Through this message, I would also like to kindly remind all members to renew their membership subscriptions in a timely manner, so that we may continue to move forward together.
I wish you all a productive year ahead, filled with safe and enjoyable flights — and even better landings.
Pambos Avgoustis
President AOPA-Cyprus
